JXL

JPEG XL is a modern image format from the JPEG committee, whose core standard, ISO/IEC 18181-1, was published in 2022. It compresses photos better than JPEG, can repack existing JPEG files losslessly about 20% smaller, and supports transparency, HDR and animation, but older apps and browsers may not open it.
