3MF
3MF (3D Manufacturing Format) is the 3D printing format of the 3MF Consortium, founded in 2015 by Microsoft and other industry members. A 3MF file is a ZIP package holding the model in XML with its units, colours, materials and the placement of every object on the build plate, and it is the project format of slicers such as PrusaSlicer, Bambu Studio and Cura.

PLY (Polygon File Format, also known as the Stanford Triangle Format) was created at Stanford University in the 1990s to store data from 3D scanners. Besides vertices and faces it can hold per-vertex colors, normals and other values in text or binary form, which makes it popular for 3D scans and point clouds.
