How PDF OCR works
Optical character recognition (OCR) reads the pixels of a scanned page and recognizes the letters and words in them. Our OCR tool overlays that recognized text as an invisible layer on top of the original scan, so the page still looks identical but becomes fully searchable and selectable.

Which file types can I OCR?
Scanned PDFs as well as JPG and PNG photos of documents. Whatever you upload, the result is always a searchable PDF.
Which languages are supported?
English, German, French, Spanish, Indonesian, Portuguese, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, and Italian. Pick the language that matches the document for the best accuracy.
Will OCR change how my document looks?
No. The recognized text is added as an invisible layer underneath the page image, so the document looks exactly the same. It just becomes searchable and selectable.
What does the deskew option do?
Deskew straightens pages that were scanned at a slight angle before running OCR, which noticeably improves recognition accuracy on crooked scans.
Is my document safe?
Yes. Files are encrypted during upload and processing, are never shared, and are automatically deleted from our servers after 2 hours.
