How does PDF repair work?

Repair works best on structural damage. If page content itself was destroyed, the tool recovers everything still readable, and a badly truncated file may come back with fewer pages than the original. Your upload and the repaired copy are processed over HTTPS and automatically deleted from our servers after 2 hours.

  1. Upload the damaged PDF

Drop in the PDF that will not open, whether a download was cut short, a save failed or a disk let it down.

  2. The structure is rebuilt

Every object that can still be read is re-parsed, the index is reconstructed and a fresh, standards-compliant PDF is written.

  3. Download the repaired copy

Download it with everything that could still be read. Damaged pages come back as far as their data survived.

Frequently asked questions

Still have questions? Contact support.

What kinds of PDF damage can be repaired?

The tool fixes structural problems: corrupted cross-reference tables, broken object offsets, incomplete trailers, and similar issues caused by interrupted downloads or crashed applications. If the underlying page data is intact, the repaired file opens and renders normally.

Will I lose any content?

Content that is still present in the file survives repair. If parts of the file were physically lost, for example through truncation, those pages cannot be recovered, and the repaired PDF contains everything that remained readable.

Is it safe to upload my PDF?

Yes. Files are transferred over HTTPS, processed automatically, and deleted from our servers after 2 hours. Nobody looks at your documents.

Does repairing change how my PDF looks?

No. Repair rebuilds the file's internal structure without altering page content, fonts, or layout. A successfully repaired PDF looks the same as the original.
