How it works

  1. Upload the MP4. Files up to 100 MB and 30 minutes of audio are supported.

  2. The audio track is separated from the video and transcribed with timestamps on every line.

  3. Edit inline, then export as TXT, DOCX or PDF, or as SRT and VTT subtitles that match the original timing.

Why MP4 files land here

MP4 is what Zoom, Teams, Loom, OBS and every phone camera hand you, so it is the file waiting whenever a meeting, webinar or screen recording needs to become text. Only the audio track is used: the video is never re-encoded and never looked at, which is why a two-hour recording in 4K is no slower to transcribe than the same conversation captured as audio. Drop the MP4 in exactly as it came out of the app.

Why the video part does not matter

MP4 is a container holding a video stream and an audio stream side by side, and transcription touches only the second one. Resolution, frame rate and codec are therefore irrelevant to the result, but they dominate file size, and that is the limit you will meet. A 1080p screen recording easily passes 100 MB in ten minutes even though its speech would fit in a few. Exporting at a lower resolution, or extracting the audio first, keeps long recordings under the ceiling.

What people transcribe

MP4 is how meetings and screen recordings are saved, so it is where most workplace transcripts begin.

  • Turning Zoom, Teams and Google Meet recordings into shareable minutes
  • Writing captions and show notes for YouTube and social video
  • Documenting product demos, walkthroughs and Loom recordings
  • Making webinars and conference sessions searchable after the event

Transcription questions, answered

What people ask before transcribing an MP4. Still have questions? Contact support.

Does the video quality affect the transcript?

No. Only the audio track is transcribed, so resolution and frame rate change nothing about accuracy. They do change the file size, which is what determines whether the upload fits under the 100 MB limit.

My MP4 is too large to upload. What can I do?

Export it at a lower resolution, or extract the audio to MP3 or M4A and upload that instead, since the transcript is identical and the file is a fraction of the size. Splitting a long recording also works.

Can I get subtitles for the video back?

Yes. Export the transcript as SRT or VTT and the original timings come with it, so the file drops straight into YouTube, Premiere, DaVinci or any player. For captions burned into the picture, use the subtitle generator.

What about MOV, MKV and other video files?

They work the same way. MOV, MKV, AVI, WebM, M4V and more are all accepted, and each has its audio track extracted before transcription.
