How the audio to text tool works

Frequently asked questions

Still have questions? Contact support.

Is the audio to text tool free?

Yes. Transcription on Novitora is completely free and needs no signup or account. You can upload or record, edit the transcript, and download every export format without paying or hitting a daily quota.

Which audio and video formats can I transcribe?

You can upload common audio formats like MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, FLAC, and OGG, plus video formats like MP4, MOV, MKV, and AVI. The tool extracts the audio track from video automatically before transcribing.

Is there a limit on how long the file can be?

Each file can be up to 30 minutes long and 100 MB in size on the free tool. Compressed formats like MP3 fit the whole 30 minutes easily; uncompressed WAV reaches 100 MB sooner, at roughly 10 to 20 minutes depending on the channels. For longer recordings, split the audio into parts and transcribe them one at a time. There is no signup and no daily cap on the number of files.

Can I edit the transcript?

Yes. Click any line to fix the wording directly in your browser, and the changes are reflected in every export. As the audio plays, the current line is highlighted so you can follow along and correct as you go.

What export formats are available?

You can download the transcript as plain text (TXT), subtitles (SRT or VTT), a Word document (DOCX), a PDF, or structured JSON. Every format is free, and subtitle files use timings from the transcript so they drop straight into your editor.

What happens to my files?

Your file is sent over an encrypted connection for processing, and both the media and the transcript are deleted automatically after 2 hours. Novitora never asks you to create an account to use the tool.
