How it works

  1. Upload your MP3, or record straight into the browser. Files up to 100 MB and 30 minutes of audio are supported.

  2. Speech recognition transcribes the audio and stamps every line with its timecode, usually in a fraction of the recording's length.

  3. Fix anything that came out wrong in the inline editor, then export as TXT, DOCX, PDF, or as SRT and VTT subtitles.

Why MP3 files land here

MP3 is what almost every recorder, podcast host and messaging app hands you when you export audio, so it is the file most people are holding when they need words instead of sound. This page is tuned for exactly that: upload the MP3, let speech recognition do the typing, then edit and export. The spoken language is detected automatically, so a downloaded interview, a lecture recording and a customer call all follow the same three steps.

What MP3 means for accuracy

MP3 is a lossy format, which sounds alarming for transcription but rarely matters: speech lives in the frequency range MP3 preserves best, and anything encoded at 64 kbps or above transcribes about as well as the original recording. What does move the needle is the recording itself, where a close microphone, one speaker at a time and little background music beat any bitrate. Very low-bitrate mono files from old voice recorders are the one case where accuracy visibly drops.

What people transcribe

MP3 is the format recordings arrive in, so it is also the format most transcripts start from.

  • Turning podcast episodes into show notes, articles and searchable archives
  • Writing up interviews and research calls exported from a recorder or phone
  • Making voice memos and dictated notes into text you can actually edit
  • Keeping a written record of coaching sessions, sermons and conference talks

Transcription questions, answered

What people ask before transcribing an MP3. Still have questions? Contact support.

Is MP3 compression bad for transcription accuracy?

Not in practice. MP3 keeps the frequencies speech occupies, so anything at 64 kbps or higher transcribes about as well as an uncompressed file. Recording quality matters far more than bitrate, and a clear, close microphone beats a high bitrate every time.

How long can my MP3 be?

Up to 30 minutes of audio and 100 MB per file on the free tier. Longer recordings transcribe best when you split them first, and the transcripts join cleanly afterwards.

Do I get timestamps I can turn into subtitles?

Yes. Every line carries its timecode, and the SRT and VTT exports keep that timing, so an MP3 taken from a video drops straight back into a player or editor as a subtitle track.

Which language does it expect?

None in particular. The language is detected automatically and dozens are supported, and a Language selector above the button lets you force one for tricky recordings, leave it on Auto-detect unless you are sure. And while this page is tuned for MP3, other common audio and video formats are accepted here too.
